The A&E network will soon be premiering Mike Myers’ directorial debut. His film will revolve around the most famous person in the world that you’ve never even heard of. Shep Gordon is Hollywood’s most connected celebrity manager. Myers’ film “Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon” will premiere on Saturday, September 20th at 6pm ET/PT.

Gordon has made a major cultural impact on the entertainment and music industry. With his major fame power creating skills, he has has transformed his clients into some of today’s biggest stars. Alice Cooper, Teddy Pendergrass, Anne Murray, and Groucho Marx are just a few of these big name clients. A-list actors Sylvester Stallone, Michael Douglas, and Steven Tyler will make appearances in the film to comment on Gordon’s talent. Mike Myers had the following to say about the Gordon:

“I met Shep Gordon in 1991 on the set of ‘Wayne’s World.’ I thought he was a perfect combination of Brian Epstein, Marshall McLuhan and Mr. Magoo. I’ve been trying to get Shep to agree to let me make a movie about him for ten years. Last year he finally he said yes. I loved him like a brother before we started making this film and now having sifted through his life and his legacy, I love him even more.”

“Power Rangers” Movie Release Date Announced http://thepopfix.com/2014/08/14/power-rangers-movie-release-date-announced/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/08/14/power-rangers-movie-release-date-announced/#comments Thu, 14 Aug 2014 16:42:56 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=11018
power rangers

This is the nostalgic news that I am wanting to hear! The kids of the late 80′s and 90′s freaked out when “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtules” was set to get a reboot and now they can get ready to do some morphin’! Many reports have been floating around the internet of a possible new “Power Rangers” film. The studio that created “Hunger Games” and “Divergent” have officially announced a release date for the movie. Lionsgate has set July 22nd of 2016 for the release of their re-envisioned take on the original television series “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.”

The first film, “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie,” came out in 1995 and was honestly one of my favorite movies of all time. So now it’s time to break out my “Power Rangers” pogs, playing cards, action figures, and prepare for some more reinvented pop culture from the 90′s.

lonely island

The musical comedy stylings brought to you by The Lonely Island will soon be appearing on a movie screen near you. Yes that is right, the trio that has delivered viral hits such as, “I’m on a Boat,” “Dick in a Box,” and “Like a Boss.” The comedy group originally gained an audience via their musical comedy sketches on “Saturday Night Live.” After gaining huge success they started to release full albums of their own, where they ended up topping the charts each time. Now Universal is giving them the chance to shine on the big screen.

Group members Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone will have a hand in the writing process and also co-star in the film. Judd Apatow is attached to produce the film, with Schaffer and Taccone co-directing. The movie is currently untitled, but the story-line is set to take place in the music world. The Lonely Island took over late night television and the internet, but can they rap their way to the top of the box office?

THE CRITIC: Jon Favreau Serves Up An Indie Revival In “Chef” http://thepopfix.com/2014/05/07/the-critic-jon-favreau-serves-up-an-indie-revival-in-chef/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/05/07/the-critic-jon-favreau-serves-up-an-indie-revival-in-chef/#comments Wed, 07 May 2014 20:16:46 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=9868 “Chef” 2014

CHEF_OS

Calling all foodies and film fans – if you’re craving an introspective story about family, fear, and finding the strength to follow a dream, Jon Favreau serves it up in “Chef.”

Though he’s most recently known for his work helming big budget blockbusters like “Iron Man” and “Iron Man 2″ Favreau steps outside the expected with “Chef” – a lighthearted comedy about a man’s personal journey to reignite a passion, and reconnect with his son.

“Chef” follows the story of Carl Casper (Favreau), who decides to start a food truck business after losing his job at a high profile restaurant. The journey takes Casper across the country, bringing new experiences, challenges, and the opportunity to spend some overdue time with his son, played by Emjay Anthony. While the progression of the father-son relationship is both heart-felt and entertaining most of the time, it deflates during the few moments where Favreau fails to convey emotional specificity. Instead, the film’s strong suit is found in the chemistry between Favreau and friends John Leguizamo, Bobby Cannavale, and feisty food critic arch-nemeses played by Oliver Platt. The comedy continues down to the star-studded cameos, both Russell Peters and Amy Sedaris brought their chops to the table for short scenes that are likely to be fan-favorites.

Comedy aside, the film’s undeniable charm lies in the main character’s narrative, that in seems to parallel Favreau’s life, resulting in a rewarding movie-going experience that feels more personal than the blockbuster behemoths it’s competing against this summer  “Chef” feels like a flavorful return to his days as an indie darling and successfully straddles the line between star-studded summer flick and low budget indie film. resulting in a relatable, feel-good movie that will leave you asking for seconds.

“Chef” opens in theatres May 9th, 2014.

Don’t Make A “Beetlejuice 2″ http://thepopfix.com/2014/03/24/dont-make-a-beetlejuice-2/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/03/24/dont-make-a-beetlejuice-2/#comments Mon, 24 Mar 2014 16:50:00 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=8985 “Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!”

The Tim Burton classic turns 26 this week and the ghost with the most has appeared in the news a lot over the last six months as original cast and crew have been discussing the possibility of returning for a sequel.

It started back in October when our friends the Schmoes reported that Tim Burton was in talks to direct a follow up. Actress Winona Rider added fuel to the fire the following month when she said that despite being “sworn to secrecy” it looked like the sequel “might be happening” going on to say that the film that was being discussed was “not a remake.” Recently on a press tour for “Robocop,” Michael Keaton himself confirmed that the role was one that he was always interested in returning to but only if Burton was involved. According to Keaton, it looks like he is.

Got the facts? Great. Now let Clarke Wolfe tell you why THIS IS A TERRIBLE IDEA on this week’s SOAPBOX!
