Taco Bell Breakfast Mission

Today is a historic day for our fast food nation, the Taco Bell chain will launch their national breakfast menu.

Taco Bell has been expanding their marketing tactics outside of the standard social media websites, and have started utilizing the Snapchat Story feature along with posting on Vine. Their latest marketing venture is one straight out of the movies. 1,000 Taco Bell fans unexpectedly received a burner prepaid cellphone, with instructions to complete daily missions for the chance to win breakfast themed merchandise, gift cards, and destination trips. I just so happen to be one of the lucky 1,000 to receive a #BreakfastPhone and I thought I would share my experience.

When I found the package at my door, I honestly had zero clue as to what would be inside. To open a box and see a cellphone with a Taco Bell breakfast logo tagged on the back, I was downright confused. I’m currently blazing through “Chuck” on Netflix, which is about a normal guy, who winds up turning into a spy. With that fresh on my mind, after reading the instructions about the missions, I instantly turned on my secret agent persona. For the next week I would be receiving phone calls and text messages delivering tasks to complete that would allow me the opportunity to win some awesome prizes, while at the same time promote Taco Bell’s new breakfast menu.

Now I don’t get off of work until late, and I have to watch Netflix before bed. This means if I don’t have to, I won’t wake up until a little before noon. That all changed when I started receiving phone calls at 6am wanting me to tweet my excitement about the new Waffle Taco. Imagine waking a hibernating beast just so he can read a text message that says, “If there aren’t hashbrowns in every bite, why bother?” These types of messages and calls were received each day at varied times from 6am to midnight…and a couple times even later!

The mission briefings were always somewhat humorous, but ended with the stern order of, “You have four hours.” That normally had me jumping to my feet to think of something creative to post on Instagram or Twitter to beat out the competition. Some of my posts included: sketching a picture of a Waffle Taco, juggling of the breakfast menu items, and sleeping on linens decorated with print outs of the AM Crunchwrap. During a few of these smaller prize missions, I was chosen and won: a Waffle Taco air fresheners, a $50 gift card, Waffle Taco sneakers, and a Waffle Taco button down shirt. I beat out 999 others to win a round-trip flight to Pacifica, California to eat breakfast at the coolest Taco Bell location and receive some sunrise surf lessons. I did this by filming a video of myself going through a Taco Bell drive-thru and ordering a flight to Pacifica and a Waffle Taco. With my editing skills and some voice over additions, I was able to make it seem real.

The missions are over and I am no longer a secret agent working for Taco Bell, but it was an exciting experience. Conversations with Taco Bell’s Twitter account has kept me laughing and I know we’re going to be friends forever. I am going to go now and try my first ever Waffle Taco and I know many others are now, because of this successful promotional campaign. My only concern is, will the phone now explode? #WakeUpLiveMas
